Deb Bowen Exchange
The Bowen Family
Deb Bowen is from Aledo, Illinois - a small town near the Mississippi River - just outside the Quad Cities. The most famous of the Quad Cities is Moline, Illinois is where John Deere has their World Headquarters. The Bowen family lives surrounded by cornfields where these big green tractors do their thing in the Heartland of America.
Deb is the wife of Don who is very supportive of her work with exchange students. Together they are the parents of six children with the oldest three (all girls) living in a northern suburb of Detroit, Michigan and their fourth daughter in college in Greenville, Illinois. Youngest in the family are two sons who attend Mercer County High School. The Bowen's recently have been blessed with their first two grandchilden - Wyatt and his baby sister Kaylynn.
The Bowen's have hosted both short term students and long term. Cassie, Joshua and Michael have been host siblings over 13 times. Their siblings include Olga from Kyrgystan, Albina from Kyrgystan, Christen from Germany, Ida from Germany, Laura from Germany, Esther from Germany, Marcello from Brazil, Sergiu from Romania, Pawel from Poland, Nicola from Italy, and Tamara from Israel. There were also two girls from Switzerland who stayed with their family on a People to People experience. Since Deb has worked with exchange students, numerous students have stayed with them over the years from countries all around the world. It's been a revolving door of fun for this family.
The Bowen family started hosting exchange students when the boys were only 2 and 4. It's made a world of difference in their lives.
Their college age daughter, Cassie, has traveled to Europe visiting host sisters in Germany and another great exchange student friend from Austria. These relationships really do last a lifetime!
Deb is passionate about exchange for the educational value and also because she feels it touches lives with a powerful love. It's an amazing way to promote peace and bring understanding to this lost and hurting world.
So it goes - one exchange student at a time - one host family at a time - we touch lives and change the world (or at least our little corner of it).
Deb hopes and prays your family will catch the vision of student exchange and host a student in your home this next school year! Your lives will never be the same.

A Loving Tribute
In Memory of Jordan Nagler
1978 - 2008
In October 2008 the world of student exchange lost a great friend named Jordan Nagler. Jordan was the National Director of a program Deb worked with and a true champion of education. Thousands of students from all over the world will never know the hours of work he poured into making their dream of coming to the USA a reality.
"Thank you, Jordan, for all the lives you have touched."

Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us!
